Bonsai is an art of infinite range. A bonsai is never ‘finished’ – it changes with the seasons and matures and improves with the passing years.
The two syllables of the Japanese word ‘Bonsai’ literally are translated as ‘a tree in a pot’. They are miniaturised trees, grown in shallow pots, which have been trained to enhance their shape. They are easy to grow providing they have good natural light an plenty of fresh air.
A bonsai in not naturally a dwarfed variety. Its growth is not restricted by confining its roots in a pot, but by constant clipping and trimming. The size and shape are entirely determined by its keeper who’s horticultural and artistic skills also determine its eventual height and aesthetic quality.
Bonsai’s can be enjoyed by people of all ages.
